Fabio Motta spent five years working with the famous Bolgheri producer Michele Satta (now his father-in-law). In 2009 he was able to embark on his own journey when he acquired 4 hectares of vines in the Bolgheri DOC.
His first vineyard, Le Pievi, overlooks the Mediterranean sea from the foothills of Castagneto Carducci and is planted with Bordeaux varietals, Syrah and Sangiovese. He later purchased another vineyard, La Vignanova, in the Fornacelle area, planted with top-quality white grapes, notably Vermentino, Viognier and Sauvignon Blanc.
The vineyards are biodynamically farmed and the approach in the cellar is hands off. Fabioβs philosophy is that all the elements contributing to wine production are equally important, and the result is a unique reflection of the winemaker and the terroir.

Intense menthol and dark fruit aromas segue to a tight and drying palate, showing both sapidity and salinity. There's freshness of acidity and purity of cool black and blue fruits in the background – but at present it remains veiled behind the wood. This needs time but will come good. Since last year, Fabio Motta has been under majority control of Agricole Gussalli Beretta, the historic arms manufacturers who already own several other wineries in Italy.
