Proudly family owned, the Borthwick vineyard is an established vineyard situated in Gladstone, the heart of the Wairarapa. Producing quality wine for over a decade, Paddy, an experienced wine maker, has gained a reputation for producing consistently great wines. The twenty seven hectares of vines bordering the Ruamahunga River are growing on stony, free draining, alluvial soils, with a micro climate giving warm daily temperatures, cool nights and low rainfall; perfect conditions for producing distinctive, quality wines.

The 2023 growing season has produced a wine with great aromas and intense fruit concentration. The nose opens up with a fragrant splash of lychee and passionfruit notes tempered by hints of sautéed herbs. Bright and zippy on the palate and packed with flavour, showing a core of ripe nectarine and lemon-lime acidity. The wine finishes with lingering notes of tropical fruits and zest.

At the southerly point of Africa along the Cape South Coast, Elgin stands out as the coolest region for wine production. Situated 450 meters above sea level on the southern ridge overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, lies Iona vineyards, surrounded by the UNESCO-certified Kogelberg Biosphere. Here, a unique microclimate is shaped by the close proximity to the freezing Atlantic Ocean and rapid altitude rise. Misty clouds shield the vineyards from intense sun exposure, filtering the sunlight to promote slow ripening. This results in grapes with perfect acidity, moderate alcohol, and beautifully developed flavours.

Iona's vineyards are meticulously tended by hand using organic and biodynamic methods, prioritizing soil health and integrated pest management. This philosophy extends to their cellar practices, where minimal intervention is required thanks to the exceptional quality of their fruit.

Hourglass produced their first vintage in 1997 and for many years their entire production was from a single 4 acre vineyard just north of St. Helena. Today, they own two vineyards – the original estate Hourglass Vineyard, purchased in 1975, and the Blueline Vineyard in the Calistoga sub appellation, purchased in 2006. Pairing the wisdom, skill and artistry of the winemaking team and the soul of these dramatic vineyards, Hourglass wines are modern and elegant expressions that capture the essence of these expressive places of origin in every bottle. 

The 2021 Blueline Cabernet toes a perfect line of elegance, brightness, and power.  Initial aromatics show ground coffee, wet gravel, forest ferns and toasted oak barrel, which meld seamlessly into the rich, dark fruit tones. Cassis and pomegranate flavours emerge on the palate, where silky tannins are deftly countered by the tensional energy of natural, mouthwatering acidity and the trademark Blueline minerality. Winemaker and co-founder Rob Cameron has a colourful winemaking background – learning his craft in unique destinations such as Cyprus, Bulgaria and Hungary before moving on to France, Spain and Italy. For him, the Invivo range is all about taking some of the elegance from the old world and putting that style into amazing grapes, all the while offering wines that are fun and a bit unique.

Packed with ripe melons, guava and punchy limes, these aromas are electric in the glass, leading to a wave of tropical fruit filling the palate. This powerful wine has a generous drive of lime-infused acidity through the sweet, fruited mouth-feel and a lengthy finish that is perfectly refreshing, showing great phenolic tang that emphasizes the superbe balance between the fruit and acids. Classic and punchy in style, this is a stellar example of what New Zealand can do with this grape.

The Piantini family's journey began in Chiusa di Pesio, Italy, where their ancestors left their wine-producing heritage to seek new opportunities in Mendoza, Argentina. Several generations later, the family acquired vineyards in the Cachapoal Valley from the founders of Winery Lagar de Bezana. In 2017, under the new ownership, the winery underwent a transformation, modernizing its processes and facilities, and was rebranded as Lagar de Codegua Terroir. Situated at the base of the Andes Mountains, this Cabernet benefits from a unique terroir, where clear skies, cool nights, and gravelly soils contribute to its deep colour, refined tannins, and vibrant fruit expression. Château Tour des Termes derives its name from an ancient tower on a plot known as "the Terms," believed to have served as a lighthouse during the Gallo-Roman era. However, the estate’s legacy is deeply rooted in the history of the Anney family, who have overseen the vineyard’s development for generations. Since 1979, Jean and Christophe Anney have modernized the estate through significant investments in infrastructure and vineyard management, earning Château Tour des Termes recognition as one of the top Crus Bourgeois. 

This classic wine boasts a magnificent nose filled with dark, brooding forest fruits, sweet spices, and smoky nuances. Exuding class and elegance, it presents ripe, focused fruit layered with cassis, blackberry, and raspberry, harmoniously intertwined with delicate floral notes. The Old Testament vineyard is located in the heart of the Coonawarra. The resulting wine produced suggests ripe mulberry and blueberry aromatics with gentle notes of  shaved pencil and menthol on the nose. Soft red berry fruits begin to unfold on the palate, finishing with a spiced-liqueur like quality, carried by velvety tannins and perfectly judged acidity.

Nicolas Potel is an iconic producer and pioneer in the Burgundy winemaking scene. He grew up in a family dedicated to wine; and after gaining some experience internationally, he started his own project in the late 90's. Radford Dale is one of South Africa’s leading independent Wineries. Based on the Helderberg Mountain in Stellenbosch and specializing in producing site-specific, natural wines.  Named by Decanter Magazine as the Best Chenin produced in South Africa, this is one of the greatest representations of how Chenin can and should be made.

The fresh vibrancy of white peach and apple aromas on the nose, hint at the wine’s sophisticated elegance and a touch of cinnamon and adds to its complexity. A generous mid palate of quince, pineapple and a weighty feel reward while the bright acidity refreshes with an interesting tang and persistent clean, mineral finish.

Established in 2006, Metzer Family Wines is dedicated to crafting expressive and unique wines through artisanal, non-interventionist methods that honour the integrity of the fruit. A single-vineyard wine from a bush vine parcel planted in 1980, situated a mere 4 km’s from the shores of False Bay. The vineyard’s pure fruit quality radiates pear, white peach and lemon. Fresne-Ducret is rich in family history and has been rooted in the premier cru village of Villedommange since the mid 1800s. Originally growing grapes for large champagne houses, it wasn’t until the end of the second world war that the family decided to make their own wine. The tradition carries on today with Pierre Fresne and his wife Daniella, who are the embodiment of the Fresne Ducret story: at the crossroads of cultures and history. They represent a new generation of winemakers devoted to the future of champagne, keen to preserve the land that has sustained their family for so long. 

Part of the 'Arquémie' collection of micro-cuvées—a nod to medieval alchemy—these exceptional wines are crafted by Pierre, tailored to each vintage profile. The N°7 Blanc de Blancs exhibits impressive maturity and complexity on the nose, with a rich autolytic character emerging in the glass. It boasts a remarkable balance of sweetness and acidity, featuring a soft palate where persistent effervescence enhances its creamy texture. Along with secondary notes of custard and toasted nuts, there are abundant citrus and orchard fruit flavours that bring out the youthfulness still very present in the wine. Pasquale Jasci and his wife Maria began producing wine in the 1960s, paving the way for their son Giuseppe and his wife to initiate an eventual shift to organic farming in 1980. Today, the company is led by Donatello and his wife Piera, who blend tradition with technological innovation. For over 40 years, the Jasci family has cultivated their land organically, long before official recognition, resulting in clean and healthy vineyards. Their eco-conscious approach extends to the winery itself, which is built using green practices and generates 70% of its energy from solar power. All their estates are located in Abruzzo.

This wine offers a delicate profile, starting with subtle hints of ripe yellow fruits and the floral scent of Spanish Broom flowers. On the palate, it's well-balanced, revealing pleasing richness and body. Nestled in the scenic Colli Orientali del Friuli wine district, the Danieli Estate stands as one of the most esteemed names in the DOC. The estate’s storied legacy began in 1870, when Filotimo Danieli and his wife Anna Beltrame founded the winery amidst the rolling hills of Buttrio. Now in its fifth generation, Marina Danieli and her two children manage 100 hectares of diverse farmland, including vineyards, woods, gardens, and orchards. Garage Wine Co was literally started in a garage in 2001, by Etobicoke expat Derek Mossman and his wife Pilar Miranda. Since then, the dynamic duo have chosen to revive old vineyards in marginalized Chilean communities. They work mostly in the regions of Maule and Itata where they make highly coveted wines.

Harvesting has evolved into a collaborative effort, with small quantities of grapes picked across different sites in a convoy-like fashion. This approach ensures that more families benefit from fair compensation for their grapes while fostering a sense of camaraderie during production. It also plays a crucial role in encouraging the younger generation to remain connected to the land and continue the tradition of farming.

An engaging white wine made mostly from red varietals País and a splash of Carignan. Bright aromas of white peach and rose hips settle between tangy citrus notes of tangerine and tart cranberries on the nose. The palate is vibrant and pleasantly floral, accentuated by an understated streak of salinity and bitter almond. Focused acidity lends incredible freshness and lift, highlighting the wine's complexity on the elegant finish.

The Cortonesi family has been a cornerstone of the Montalcino region for decades. Established in the 1970s, their estate spans 138 acres in one of the area's most storied regions, with 19 acres dedicated to producing world-class Brunello. The family began commercially selling their wine in 1985, and today, third-generation winemaker Tommaso Cortonesi continues the tradition. Tommaso combines his long-standing family traditions with modern technologies to craft some of the finest expressions of Tuscan Sangiovese. 

'La Mannella' is crafted exclusively from grapes harvested in the southeast, where the soil is a mix of clay and sandstone. The wine is aged in 30-hectoliter Slavonian oak barrels, which allow for extended aging without imparting excessive aromas to better preserve the primary characteristics of the grapes and the uniqueness of each vintage. 2019 reveals fragrantly spiced dark-berried fruits with notes of seared herbs and tobacco, underscored by vibrant acidity and freshness.  

We recommend to pair this Brunello with bold meals: oxtail, a beautiful steak, rich stews or game paired with mushroom sauces. The spicy aromas of the wine will enhance the flavours of the food.

Domaine André Aubert, has been formed over decades and generations by one very passionate wine family and today comprises of more than 280 hectares spread from north to south of the prestigious Southern Rhone Valley on the appellations Côtes du Rhône, Côtes du Rhône villages, Visan, and Grignan-les-Adhémar. The Château Le Grand Retour property was purchased in 1999.

Château le Grand Retour is situated in the Plan de Dieu AOC. This geographical area is overflowing with very important pebbles left behind by the Rhône River from millennia ago. As the Aubert family says, this vineyard allows the vines to 'drink the sun and live on stones.'

A sumptuous blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre with rich fruit aromas of black cherry and raspberry. Notes of licorice and spice dominate the full-bodied palate and lead to a well-balanced and complex finish. This wine punches above it's weight in every class!

Cantina Bolzano, South Tyrol's largest cooperative winery, represents a union of over 224 growers from 350 hectares of Bolzano's finest vineyards. Formed in 2001 by merging the historical Gries Winery (1908) and St. Magdalena Winery (1930), Cantina Bolzano combines traditional expertise with a youthful, visionary approach. Grapes are sourced across a variety of distinctive vineyard locations, ranging from 240 to 800 meters above sea level, utilizing both alluvial valley floors and sandy hillside soils. Their rigorous selection process and green cultivation methods yield high-quality grapes, resulting in a wide range of wines across their Classic, Election, and Riserva lines.

Poderi 322 takes shape in the heart of the Montalcino hill, where the historical significance of the Sangiovese grape is deeply felt. Each wine begins with local artisan farmers who have long been cultivating small vineyard plots with great passion and care. Réva winery focuses on producing wines of excellence with extreme attention to the particular characteristics of each grape variety and the utmost respect for diversity. All the vineyards are cultivated organically and the estate is run by a group of young professionals who value both tradition and innovation.

The Lazzarito cru extends in the exact half of the long strip of land drawn by the municipality of Serralunga d'Alba. Soils are characterized by the Arenarie di Diano, composed of marl, sand and a high content of limestone. This gives Barolos of fine colour that are full and round with incredible structure and texture. Cultivated from a single hectare plot and made from 100% Nebbiolo (Clone Lampia), the 2016 was aged for 36 months in large Austrian oak barrels, followed by further aging in bottle for and additional 24 months. 

This Riserva boasts a bouquet rich in fruity aromas of cherry, blackberry, and rhubarb, with hints of balsamic and herbal mint-laced nuances. On the palate, it showcases the power of this renowned cru, featuring a robust yet balanced structure. Refined acidity highlights the fruit and savoury character, while finely-grained, velvety tannins add texture and temper its ripe concentration. The finish is long and harmonious, revealing Barolo Lazzarito as an important and prized wine. Produced only in the best vintages, with a limited production of just 2,000 bottles.

Sister’s Run is serious fun and serious wine. The talented, young winemaker Elena Brooks (of Dandelion Vineyards and Heirloom Vineyards fame) wears steel cap work boots every day of course, but carries a pair of high heels in back of the ute for emergencies - like last minute invitations to accept trophies at gala wine show dinners and the like!

Notes of black cherries dipped in milk chocolate kick things off on the nose followed by hints of violet florals and sweet clove spices from tempered oak. An underlying herbal streak underscores the sweet aromatics, adding a savoury, almost minty edge beneath the fruit. Smooth tannins provide a rounded grip on the palate and are wrapped up by flavours of warm stewed plums with a touch of Pastis. Hallmark notes of cracked black pepper cascade into the rich finish. The balance between ripe fruit and tannin, along with underlying acidity, makes this big red incredibly drinkable.

Serve this with ease alongside an eggplant laksa or peppered chicken grilled on the barbecue. Don't be afraid to cellar some of this wine too - There's reward ahead.
