Tantalus Vineyards was founded on the belief that exceptional wines made from a single vineyard of outstanding pedigree would capture the imagination and palates of those seeking authenticity and a sense of place. The winery is situated on the eastern slopes of the Okanagan Valley, overlooking the shores of Lake Okanagan and the City of Kelowna. Originally known as Pioneer Vineyards, the site was first planted to table grapes in 1927 and today is known as the oldest continuously producing vineyard in British Columbia.

Vibrant and full of life, the Maija Pinot Noir is a true expression of this poetic variety, and named after Tantalus proprietor Eric Savics’ daughter.

The palate is warm and inviting with a firm but juicy structure. Notes of plum, cranberry and dark cherry are complemented by hints of sandalwood and blueberry. The signature Tantalus minerality is here in spades, which leads to a surprisingly long finish for a wine from such youthful vines.

We recommend to pair with grilled miso salmon with wild mushrooms, smoked ham or your favourite pizza!

From younger blocks on the estate in East Kelowna this was wild fermented and aged 12 months in neutral oak. It doesn't have the depth of more expensive examples but it is quite complex and surprisingly elegant. The nose quite fragrant with well meshed red cherry fruit, florals, spice and forest floor complexity. It is mid-weight, quite gentled finely textured with shrubby, dusty tannin. Could perhaps use one more year of bottle age, but fine drink now as well. Very good length.

This attractive, still fresh, bright 2018 Dijon clone Pinot Noir has a medium-deep bright purple-red colour with gently spicy, fresh, ripe, raspberry-crancherry fruit along with some mineral notes and gentle hints of toast. Dry, medium bodied, bright, fresh, ripe, red cherry purée flavours with some gently tangy, minerally notes on the lingering finish. Fermented on native yeast and aged in French barriques for 11 months (20% new), it has 13.9% alcohol and 2 g/L residual sugar with a screwcap closure. It was bargain-priced at the winery when first released at only $21.74 and is a pleasure to drink today.
