Francisco Baettig and Carlos de Carlos cut their teeth in the wine industry as part of the well known ErrƔzuriz operation, where they worked together for many years. Inspired by their mutual love of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, the talented enologist and savvy businessman branched out to create Vinos Baettig. Produced in small batches and sold as limited editions to selected buyers, their wines have swiftly become some of the most interesting & highly lauded among the emerging talents of Chile.

The grapesĀ come from a combination of parcels at ViƱedo Los Suizos, grown in theĀ region of Malleco. This is a land of wild forests, beautiful lakes, active volcanoes and abundant rain in southern Chilean. 'Los Parientes' (the relatives) refers to the closeness of the different components within the same vineyard.

The nose is austere, pure and elegant with citrusy aromas of lemon and lime zest and hints of linden, verbena, pear, apple blossoms and slivered almonds.Ā The palate reveals flinty mineral notes along with a delicate, chalky texture and crunchy fruits.Ā This a linear wine with vibrant acidity and a long salt-tinged finish.

Cool climate Chardonnays such as this are highly versatile alongside many dishes thanks to their elevated acidity. Try this one out with yogurt-marinated grilled chicken.Ā

Francisco and Carlos'Ā passion for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, together with their love for the land of their ancestors, was the inspiration for making their own wines that pay homage to these belovedĀ terroirs.Ā After studying the soil and climate in TraiguĆ©n for several years, they chose a plateau with volcanic soil between the Quino and TraiguĆ©n Rivers and planted vines in 2013.Ā

A warmer vintage gives the wine a little more substances but arguably less tension, acidity and minerality than 2022. Still, this is an incisive chardonnay, showing seashell, lemon zest and iodine character. Just a touch of pie crust. Medium- to full-bodied on the palate with fresh acidity and a mineral-driven finish. 26,000 bottles made. Delicious now but can hold.

The 2023 Vino de ViƱedo Los Parientes Chardonnay originates from TraiguĆ©n, AraucanĆ­a. Aged for eight months in French oak barrels, this yellow hued wine reveals aromas of green apple subtly complimented by pineapple and ginger notes with a soft touch of acacia. Dry, creamy and taut on the palate, it offers an oily yet refreshing mouthfeel that lingers with a vibrant acidic edge. A deliciously nuanced and faintly textured Chardonnay, the 2023 closes with an enticing cedar finish.

This SelecciĆ³n de Parcelas was made with Chardonnay grapes grown in Malleco, in the appellation of TraiguĆ©n. Malleco is a land of wild forests, beautiful lakes, active volcanoes and abundant rain in southern Chilean. The name Los Primos (the cousins) refers to the closeness of style and quality of the vineyard parcels (named TriĆ”ngulo and Llaima) that give rise to this wine.Ā 

Highly refined and expertly balanced, this vintage of Los Primos Chardonnay tenders aromas of citrus fruits, orange blossoms, honeysuckle and jasmine with light splashes of walnuts tossed in sweet spices. It has great energy and precision, but above all it stands out for its mineral texture and depth. Expect to find green apple and crunchy peach lasting long into the saline-tinged finish.Ā 

Consider pairing with shellfish and crustaceans - think lobster, crab, bivalves, shrimp, prawns & scallops! White meats also work very well, such as pork tenderloin or veal chops.

Pure mineral notes but a lot of depth here, with flinty oyster shells, crushed rock, lemon zest and a hint of cream. Broad but pure on the palate, driven by a bright streak of saline acidity. Really gastronomic and serious, with a full body but mineral water-like purity at the end. Another sensational Los Primos. According to winemaker Francisco Baettig, 2022 is moderately cool in TraiguĆ©n. A small production due to the frost. Picked around April 10. Thirteen monthsā€™ aging in 300- to 400-liter barrels, of which 37% is new.

The 2022 Chardonnay ViƱedo Los Primos originates from TraiguĆ©n in the AraucanĆ­a region. Aged for 13 months in French oak barrels (37% new), it displays a green colour with a yellowish sheen. Aromas of creamed corn and cedar emerge on the nose, accompanied by hazelnut, oak and ginger nuances. Dry, rich and fairly rich on the palate it develops a fatty and oily mouthfeel that adds depth and volume without heaviness. The 13.5% alcohol content contributes to an overwhelming mouthfeel but its balanced by taut acidity , resulting in a long-lasting flow. Compared to other vintages, the 2022 offers a more finely tuned balance.

Complex but still fresh with some toast and honey, as well as ripe lemon and melon fruit with some orange peel character and a touch of hazelnut. Lovely depth and intensity here with nice bright acidity on the finish. This is evolving in nice ways.
