Chocolate-covered cherry in an earthy core makes for a graceful and delicious first impression by this layered red. Acidity has verve, lifting ripe cherry and plum with a graceful sprinkling of white pepper. Tannins are easygoing but present, building the wine's exceptional frame. [Drink till 2028+.]

This reviewer often favors the everyday-drinking reds over the more heavy-hitting premium ones from many of South Australia's most traditional producers. This is a perfect example of a full-flavored red that's tasty, affordable and ready to drink. It needs air, so pop it in a decanter or let it sit in the glass for a bit while admiring its vibrant cherry hue. Once open, it's all about spice and ripe berry fruit, with some earthy, mushroomy, peppery, dried floral notes following behind. The palate isn't hugely complex but is well put together. There's freshness, linearity, fruit purity and loads of herbs and spices. Tannins are supple yet supportive. Drink now–2030
