Full-Bodied & Smooth

Mas Carlot is situated in the south of the Rhône Valley, extending across 76 hectares of pebbly land southeast of Nîmes.

This special cuvée was inspired by the spirit of the winemaker's children, Blanche, Eugène, Olympe and Achille. This blend of old vines, 60% Mourvèdre and 40% Syrah, was aged for nine months both in tank and in oak barrels. Like the children, the charm of this wine is found in its complexity. Aromas of truffle, tobacco leaves, blackberry and blueberry with a touch of cherry on the palate.

As the temperatures begin to cool, think about pairing this wine with rich, hearty dishes or roasted meats and vegetables.

This product is part of the LCBO Vintages program. It may take approximately 10-14 business days to be delivered.

About the Winery

Mas Carlot

Mas Carlot is situated in the south of the Rhône Valley, extending across 76 hectares of pebbly land southeast of Nîmes. Originally a 17th century farm, this beautiful estate was resurrected in the 1960's by the Blanc family—it is currently run Cyril Mares of the neighbouring and equally reputable property, Mas Bressades.

The appellation of Costières de Nîmes used to be considered part of eastern Languedoc but the climate, soil, topography and wine are far closer to those just over the river in the Southern Côtes du Rhône. It is now a region very much on the up and is widely recognized as a great source of excellent value wine.

89 points - Michael Godel

A 60 per cent mourvèdre plus syrah Costières de Nîmes joint from the western Rhône Valley, meaty and serious, welling up with earthy dark red fruit. A blend with attitude, not as the name might suggest but certainly opinionated, grippy and stubborn. Belies the price point and announces further presence with notes of creosote, graphite, star anise and clove. The perfume, flavours and chalky texture all conspire to make this a formidable $20 bottle of wine. Things should get interesting in a year to 18 months time. Drink date: 2022-2025.
