2 bottles x Tornatore Zottorinotto Bianco 2021 (Sicily, Italy)
White | Carricante

The Zottorinotto contrada is situated in the Northen slopes of mount Etna. The grape variety used is one hundred percent Carricante.

The grapes are harvested by hand, placed in small crates and quickly brought to the winery where they are manually selected on a belt-conveyor. Destemmed and slightly crushed, they are sent to the press where they are gently pressed. The must obtained is left to ferment without any temperature checking in wooden barrels of 225 liters. After the fermentation the wine obtained rests on the lees for about 8 months.

Straw yellow with intense gold reflections. Strong hints of vanilla, honey, ginestra flower and mature yellow peach. Elegance and persistence on the palate are perfectly completed by the extraordinary complexity and sapidity

2 bottles x Fattoria di Sammontana San Firenze Chianti Superiore DOCG 2020 (Tuscany, Italy)
Red | Sangiovese

The vineyards of Fattoria di Sammontana are located along the hills that border the Arno River, 20km to the south west of Florence. Today, the family - now in its fourth generation - runs the farm according to organic and biodynamic practices, with the intent to fully preserve and sustain the traditions and winemaking history of the land.

This Chianti is made from Sammontana's best and oldest Sangiovese vines, planted around 40 years ago. The grapes are destemmed and macerated in large concrete vats where for about 20 days. The wine is then pressed and transferred to old 225L barrels where it stays on its fine lees for roughly one year. Bottled with a tiny sulphite addition, unfined and unfiltered. It has aromas of sour cherry and black olives on the nose, with a hint of mediterranean herbs. On the palate the tannins are soft yet a bit rustic.

2 bottles x Villa Calcinaia Chianti Classico Riserva 2019 (Tuscany, Italy)
Red | Sangiovese
93 points by Wine Align

Villa Calcinaia is located in the heart of Chianti Classico, near the village of Greve-in-Chianti. This Tuscan estate has been home to the Capponi family since 1524. It is now in the hands of 37th-generation Conte Sebastiano Capponi, who has managed the estate since 1992.

The ripe and perfectly healthy grapes from each block are long fermented and then aged separately for 20 months in French oak 500 liters tonneaux and Slavonian oak 30 hl casks. After the cuvee is made the wine ages for another 4/6 months before its bottling.

The colour of Villa Calcinaia’s Chianti Classico Riserva is rich ruby, whilst the bouquet is mature in its fruit, well blended with the oak. The taste of the wine is soft, velvety. The structure is solid and the wood well integrated. The aftertaste is spicy and persistent. Villa Calcinaia’s Riserva is for important occasions, with rich meat dishes, or just as an added enjoyment during a conversation.

About the Winery

Azienda Agricola Tornatore

Out of a Sicilian family heritage that traces back to the 17th century, the Tornatore’s Mount Etna wine ventures began in 1865. Today the family’s operations are headed by Giuseppe Tornatore, a businessman whose expertise led to the acquisition of some of the region’s finest north-facing vineyards in the early 2000’s. That heritage and the Tornatore’s profound respect and understanding of the land is showcased in wines that capture the essence of Etna, deftly balancing concentrated flavors, complexity, freshness and refinement.

The company lies in the northern side of Mount Etna, the highest active volcano in Europe. The soils have volcanic origin and were created through the disintegration of lava, ash and stones from previous volcanic eruptions. The climate on the northern side of the Etna is characterized by mild temperatures, and more rain fall reflecting the influence of the Volcano. The combination of soil, climate and the skill of the winemakers, have made the northern slope of Etna an ideal area for the production of high-quality wines. “Our vineyards and our winery are only a few kilometers from our family home. Our entire family is rooted there. We have the greatest respect for this region, and we believe we have a responsibility to be stewards of Etna and to reflect its distinct character in our wines.” - Giuseppe Tornatore
