Yet another older pinot noir lost to barrels in places unknown and unearthed by Nicolas Potel as he scours the landscape to find Bourgogne gems hidden beneath unturned rocks and in the subterranean annals of houses in the region. The nose on a 2006 is closed at first but takes less time than expected to open up. In fact it's one of those old Bourgogne that might seem mired in a dumb phase to wonder if it will ever rebound. That it does and this time easily so with an über fresh and energetic Clos de Vougeot emergence, of striking acidity and still austere tannins. These structural comports might mean little if it was not for the cryogenically kept fruit freshness and juicy vitality once released but then refusing to dissipate. The longevity of this Grand Cru is exceptional and we might just see this wine live another 18 years - well certainly drink well for upwards of half that amount of time. Drink 2024-2032.
