A Manhattan-based sommelier tastes some Washington State wines and is so inspired, he sells everything to move across the country to make his own. That’s the start of the story of Gramercy Cellars, where a close eye on the grapes (picked for almost-peak ripeness, mostly organic), matched with minimalist wine making techniques (no or little new oak, no additives) and a lot of time (extended aging) has created wine that’s considered some of the finest that Washington offers.

A selection from the best barrels at the Gramercy cellars. As with most vintages, it comprises a blend of two incredible old vine Cabernet vineyards - Sagemoor and Phinny Hill. The nose offers an explosive medley of purple & black fruit followed by secondary flavours of purple flowers, coffee, sweet cream & graphite on the palate. The wine was aged in 50% new French oak, which contributes notes of smoke, sweet spices and cedar. The tannins are still firm and grippy but mellow with time - an energetic and powerful wine.

Serve with grilled meats and vegetables - perfect for steak night!

The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is a smashing success with an impressive array of red and black fruits on the nose with elements of spice and floral nuances that lift the experience to the next level. Wonderful expressions of dusty blackberry, cherry skin and baking spices compounded by aromas of pencil shavings, graphite and cigarbox sway with elements of red and purple flowers. Full-bodied, the wine explodes on the palate with succulent, dusty red and black fruit flavors before showing elements of dried herbs, elegant oak spice and youthful tannins across the mid-palate. The wine evolves over the long, lingering finish, showing complexity, precision and finesse. Give it a few years in the wine cellar before opening. Your patience will be rewarded. Bravo!
