Bodega Abadal, established in 1983, embodies the longstanding winemaking heritage of Valentí Roqueta's family in Pla del Bages, spanning over eight centuries. Situated around the Roqueta farmhouse where Valentí grew up, Abadal honors the family's roots and winemaking tradition in the region. The vineyards, located on terraces at various elevations, thrive on clay and limestone soil amidst woodland surroundings. Abadal's commitment to the region extends to the restoration and conservation of indigenous grape varieties, as well as historic dry stone huts and vats, all of which express a rich wine legacy in Bages.
It's in the vineyard where Abadal's wines are born and defined. Their work to revive local varieties led them to Picapoll - a grape variety that grows in small, tight clusters, featuring tiny round berries often marked with "picades" or indentations on the skin, giving way to it's name. Elegant and captivating, this wine blends citrus notes with white fruits like pineapple and peach, along with floral hints reminiscent of a forest setting, including fennel, lavender, and mint. Lees contact adds body and texture to the wine while balanced acidity complements the lingering finish.
Try this with tallarines in a mushroom sauce or bream baked in salt.
