Mineral & Spicy

Robert, whose family is originally from Hungary, was born in Canada and grew up on a farm. After some years working as an architect, he found his passion in winemaking, and relocated to his grandparent's country to start a winery.

Furmint is the historic grape of the region and this example shows its true strength. Alongside the white-fleshed fruit, the palate is also led by the intense spiciness and exciting flavours that come from the stony soil of the Váradi vineyard, and the Kádár barrels that were used for ageing it in. It has a complex character and long aging potential. A mineral wine with rich flavours and fresh acidity.

Furmint complements herb-crusted poultry or fish. You can also try it with delicate Asian dishes like sushi or dumplings.

94 points - John Szabo, MS

Complete and complex, gently wood-influenced, slowly evolving single vineyard furmint here from Gilvesy - his top furmint bottling, featuring classic grapefruit-citrus flavours, pear and apples of all colours. The palate is medium-full bodied, with ripe acids, creamy and broad, and a gentle phenolic tack - it's a wine of substantial power, and very long finish, a terrific example of the variety, but more importantly, this unique volcanic region. Drinking well now, but will hold another decade no doubt. Tasted July 2023.
