Francisco Baettig and Carlos de Carlos cut their teeth in the wine industry as part of the well known Errázuriz operation, where they worked together for many years. Inspired by their mutual love of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, the talented enologist and savvy businessman branched out to create Vinos Baettig. Produced in small batches and sold as limited editions to selected buyers, their wines have swiftly become some of the most interesting & highly lauded among the emerging talents of Chile.

This Selección de Parcelas was made with Chardonnay grapes grown in Malleco, in the appellation of Traiguén. Malleco is a land of wild forests, beautiful lakes, active volcanoes and abundant rain in southern Chilean. The name Los Primos (the cousins) refers to the closeness of style and quality of the vineyard parcels (named Triángulo and Llaima) that give rise to this wine.

Highly refined and expertly balanced, this vintage of Los Primos Chardonnay tenders aromas of citrus fruits, orange blossoms, honeysuckle and jasmine with light splashes of walnuts tossed in sweet spices. It has great energy and precision, but above all it stands out for its mineral texture and depth. Expect to find green apple and crunchy peach lasting long into the saline-tinged finish.

Consider pairing with shellfish and crustaceans - think lobster, crab, bivalves, shrimp, prawns & scallops! White meats also work very well, such as pork tenderloin or veal chops.

About the Winery

Vinos Baettig

Francisco Baettig and Carlos de Carlos have been friends for more than 20 years and share a passion for high-quality wines that are genuine and connected to the land where they are made.

Their families arrived in Traiguén and Purén from Switzerland in the 19th century, where they worked in agriculture, surrounded by volcanoes, lakes and forests, silos, livestock, wagons, and wheat fields.
Francisco and Carlos' passion for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, together with their love for the land of their ancestors, was the inspiration for making their own wines that pay homage to these beloved terroirs. After studying the soil and climate in Traiguén for several years, they chose a plateau with volcanic soil between the Quino and Traiguén Rivers and planted vines in 2013.

"A promising project in a wine region that is the future of high-quality Chilean wines" - Patricio Tapia, Descorchados

98 Points - Luis Gutiérrez

The austere and tight 2021 Selección de Parcelas Los Primos Chardonnay feels very young. It was harvested the second week of April, keeping very good freshness and acidity, with 13% alcohol, and there was part of the wine that he did not add any sulfur. He used 35% new 400-liter barrels, and the used ones are still 228-liter ones that eventually will be replaced with the used 400-liter ones in future years. There is great purity and symmetry; the oak is neatly integrated; and there's nuance, detail and a superb juiciness in the palate and citrus acidity that makes you salivate. The palate is dry and mineral, serious, less Meursault and more Chablis... It's persistent and long and has all the ingredients and balance between them to develop nicely in bottle. There was some frost, and only 3,480 bottles were produced. It was bottled in August 2022.

Intense and focused with stones and an oyster-shell minerality to the lemon zest and oatmeal. This is broad and ample but limey, with beautifully high acidity that goes incredibly well with the structure and the weight of it. Textured and long with a saline edge in the finish. So intense, but bone-dry, mineral and effortless. Drink now or hold.

The 2021 Selección de Parcelas Los Primos hails from Traiguén, Malleco, in the Araucanía Region. It was fermented in whole bunches before ageing for 15 months, 35% in new French oak and the rest in used barrels. A slightly murky, greenish-yellow in the glass. The attractive aromas range from ginger zest to green apple, with hints of lime and a touch of acacia followed by a nutty hazelnut layer. Velvety without being overly rich, it delivers and ethereal, refreshing palate tempered by a chalky texture and a pinch of salt. Rich and long-lasting, the nuanced finish ends with an aftertaste of fruit and hazelnut.
