Francisco Baettig and Carlos de Carlos cut their teeth in the wine industry as part of the well known Errázuriz operation, where they worked together for many years. Inspired by their mutual love of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, the talented enologist and savvy businessman branched out to create Vinos Baettig. Produced in small batches and sold as limited editions to selected buyers, their wines have swiftly become some of the most interesting & highly lauded among the emerging talents of Chile.

This Selección de Parcelas was made with Pinot Noir grapes grown in Malleco, in the appellation of Traiguén. Malleco is a land of wild forests, beautiful lakes, active volcanoes and abundant rain in southern Chilean. The name Los Primos (the cousins) refers to the closeness of style and quality of the vineyard parcels (named El Primo, Chuir, and La Cuñada)

The 2021 Los Primos Pinot Noir is more elegant and fresher than the previous vintage from a warmer and drier year. It's floral and vibrant on the nose revealing bright red berry fruits and subtle notes of wet earth and sweet spices. The palate offers silky tannins that slowly bloom with each sip, tempering the bright fruit and savoury notes that echo long into the finish.

Since Pinot Noir produces such food-friendly wines, pairing options are endless. We recommend trying this with a mushroom-stuffed pork roulade or braised beef.

About the Winery

Vinos Baettig

Francisco Baettig and Carlos de Carlos have been friends for more than 20 years and share a passion for high-quality wines that are genuine and connected to the land where they are made.

Their families arrived in Traiguén and Purén from Switzerland in the 19th century, where they worked in agriculture, surrounded by volcanoes, lakes and forests, silos, livestock, wagons, and wheat fields.
Francisco and Carlos' passion for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, together with their love for the land of their ancestors, was the inspiration for making their own wines that pay homage to these beloved terroirs. After studying the soil and climate in Traiguén for several years, they chose a plateau with volcanic soil between the Quino and Traiguén Rivers and planted vines in 2013.

"A promising project in a wine region that is the future of high-quality Chilean wines" - Patricio Tapia, Descorchados

Press Reviews

Robert Parker

96 Points - Luis Gutiérrez

The 2021 Selección de Parcelas Los Primos Pinot Noir fermented with more full clusters, 20%, and had a little less new oak, 33% compared with the 2020, and the differences in the weather made this 2021 more vibrant, elegant and fresher than the 2020 from a warmer and drier year. It's floral, vibrant with red fruit and with very fine tannins, full development of flavours and aromas, with a purity they had not reached in previous vintages. They harvested a little later, but the wine kept a moderate 13.5% alcohol and a low pH of 3.39, denoting superb freshness. 2021 was also lower yielding because of frost, and they only produced 3,049 bottles. It was bottled in September 2022.

So much dark cherry fruit and flowers here with an earthy dirt note that gives it a very attractive nose with fine herbs and white pepper. An ample, full-bodied pinot with pure, fleshy dark cherries. Excellent depth, weight and complexity. Long, fresh and almost rich with fresh black cherries. Very serious. 3400 bottles. Drink or hold.

95 Points - Joaquin Hidalgo

The 2021 Pinot Noir Selección de Parcelas Los Primos from Traiguén, Malleco, was 20% fermented with stems and aged for 15 months in French Oak. The chemistry of this Pinot speaks for itself: a P.H of 3.39 combined with 6.9g/l of tartaric acidity. Purple in the glass. The nose offers subtle notes of earth, sour cherry and hints of spices along with a rarefied musk from the ageing process. In the mouth, it has a silky texture and a little delicate grip that enhances the profile channeling the freshness into the complex, nuanced, earthy finish.
