Matías Riccitelli was born in Cafayete, Salta. He identifies as a traveler and a tireless dreamer. After countless harvests throughout the world, he decided to combine everything he has learned and dedicate himself to exploring the excellent terroirs of Mendoza and the teachings of his mentor, and father, Jorge Riccitelli.

Malbec is the Argentinian flagship variety and this beautiful wine is a truly sublime interpretation. Produced with grapes from old, ungrafted vines from small vineyards located at the foot of the Andes mountains, that were planted in the first decades of the 20th century.

The grapes are destemmed and fermented in small concrete vats with indigenous yeasts. Punchdowns are soft and gentle, in order to obtain a slow extraction. The wine ages in French barrels (500L) for about 16 months.

This wine has a traditional feel to it - deeply pigmented in the glass, unveiling ripe aromas of wild black berries and cherries, along with liquorice and whiffs of violet. The palate is poised and balance, with oak that is present but not invasive. A full-bodied wine that portrays the varietal tannins, which are round and elegant. The finish shows great depth and length. This is a truly a classic wine with great ageing potential.

Best served with all kinds of grilled meat, rich cheeses and chocolate.

About the Winery

Matías Riccitelli

Matías Riccitelli was born in Cafayete, Salta. He identifies as a traveler and a tireless dreamer. After countless harvests throughout the world, he decided to combine everything he has learned and dedicate himself to exploring the excellent terroirs of Mendoza and the teachings of his mentor, and father, Jorge Riccitelli.

Matías started his boutique winery in 2009, located in Las Compuertas at 1100 meters above sea level. It is the highest area of Lujan de Cuyo, and here he tends 20 hectares of ungrafted old vineyards. Matías also works with small, independent growers that own their lands at the bottom of the Andes halfway between 1000 and 1700 meters above sea level - in Gualtallary, Chacayes, Altamira and La Carrera.

All harvests are conducted by hand and fermentation takes place in small concrete vats and concrete eggs. Purity and delicacy in winemaking are prized by Matías and great care is taken in preserving the fruit’s singularity in order to obtain vibrant wines.

This is a vision of Las Compuertas and Vistalba, two of the most traditional areas in Mendoza wine and among the richest in their heritage of very old vines, which, in this case, are more than 80 years old. This is 50% from Vistalba, and the other 50% is from Las Compuertas, and it has that spirit, that character of an origin-based malbec grown on Mendoza's alluvial terrace and in one of the highest parts of Luján de Cuyo. It doesn't have the acidic energy that wines from Uco have, but it does have the depth of the fruit from old vines, the spicy flavors, the black fruits, the freshness of a high-altitude acidity that fulfills its role of refreshing until the end. A classic wine revisited by one of the most talented winemakers in Argentina today
